Why I stopped chasing stages to build systems
For years I wanted the applause. Today I want the opposite: to build things that work when I’m not standing in front of them. Here’s why I changed, and what I gained.
Board of Director
For a long time I confused the stage with the goal. I wanted the recognition, the applause, the photo. And there’s nothing wrong with wanting that. The problem is that a business built to make you shine goes dark the moment you step aside. At some point I changed my objective: I stopped chasing stages and started building systems that work without me. It was the best decision I’ve ever made, and also the least glamorous.
The applause trapA business that needs you at the center isn’t freedom: it’s a pretty cage
Applause is addictive, and that’s the danger. If everything revolves around you —you close, you motivate, you show up— you’ve built a cage shaped like a stage. Pretty, but still a cage. I realized it the day I understood that my absence shouldn’t put what I’d built at risk. If the business wobbles when you go on vacation, you don’t have a business: you have yourself, working with a few extra steps in between.
The shiftFrom leading actor to architect
A leading actor needs to be on stage. An architect designs something that stands on its own and then steps back. Moving from one to the other meant I stopped measuring my success by how many people applauded me and started measuring it by how well everything worked when I wasn’t there. A system —duplicable training, clear processes, people trained to train others— is exactly that: the way to make your results independent of your presence.
What I gainedTime, peace of mind and something that lasts
By building systems I gained the three things applause never gave me. Time, because the business no longer depends on my calendar minute by minute. Peace of mind, because I can step away without it falling apart. And permanence, because what works without you is also what keeps working when you want it to enrich more people’s lives. I haven’t reached where I want to be: I’m going for the company’s top rank, Royal Ambassador Board of Director. But I’m getting there by building systems, not by chasing spotlights.
The blueprintFour pieces of a business that doesn’t need you
A business that works without you isn’t improvised: it’s designed. These are the four pieces that are never missing:
Duplicable training
Live and recorded, so anyone can replicate it without depending on you being available.
Clear processes
What’s written down and organized can be repeated. What only lives in your head leaves with you.
People who train people
The system comes alive when someone who learned from you starts teaching others without you.
A product that stands on its own
With real demand, clients stay even when you’re not pushing every single day.
If the business wobbles when you step aside, you don’t have a business: you have yourself with extra steps. The lesson that changed me the most
All of this has been built in plain sight.
On my channel you won’t see a staged show: you’ll see ten years of a system being built, with its stages and its invisible work. Watch it and draw your own conclusions.
Honesty firstWho this is for (and who it isn’t)
Building systems is less flashy than chasing applause, but it lasts longer. Which one do you choose?
You’re a fit if…
You’re not a fit if…
Shall we build something that doesn’t need you?
If you want a business that works with you and also without you, let’s talk. I’ll walk you through how a system like this is built, step by step. I’ll write to you myself, no hype.
